“He Flew on Red Leather Wings”

In "He Flew on Red Leather Wings," a young man determined to carry on his father’s work on Neanderthal man finds himself at odds with a guardian who has no regard for his well-being. After uncovering a mystical ritual of strength, he transforms into "A Man of the Caves" — a primal warrior clad in red leather wings — and confronts his oppressor, only to face an even greater threat: the Heap. Ernest Schroeder handles both the interior art and inks, bringing the story to life with bold, dynamic lines, while the cover by Ernie Schroeder captures the dramatic moment of transformation in striking detail. A 10-cent comic from 1951, this issue stands as a rare early entry in the Airboy Comics series, blending adventure and myth in a uniquely raw, pre-DC style.
