Adventures of Superman #622
From 2004, Adventures of Superman #622 presents the Man of Steel locked in a fierce struggle against a pair of dark, winged demon-like creatures — their jagged forms and bat-like wings making for a genuinely unsettling contrast to Superman's bold red and blue. Kevin Nowlan's cover pencils and inks deliver a wonderfully moody composition, the glowing violet and orange background amplifying the tension of the title's ominous subtitle, "Unholy Matrimony." With Joe Casey writing and Derec Aucoin on art, this is a solid entry in the long-running Adventures of Superman series that delivers plenty of atmospheric menace.
