☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains multiple stories: "The Neanderthal Man" features a scientist who brings back a primitive humanoid from prehistoric times; "The End of the Rainbow" follows a leprechaun lady who attempts to use magical wishes to improve her circumstances; and "The Memory Man" presents a student named Reed who discovers he can remember every word he hears, leading to unexpected consequences when the serum wears off and his memory weakens. A fourth story involves characters on a ship hunting the white whale (the Pequod), referencing Moby Dick.
When Professor Presto and his mysterious assistant Mr. McGillicuddy arrive at the California gold rush town of Millionaire's Gulch in 1853, the miners are thrilled by the promise of magic and entertainment—until a gang of outlaws led by Homicide Hank decides to take over the settlement by force. As impossible supernatural events unfold around Mr. McGillicuddy, the townspeople begin to suspect that the real source of the strange happenings may not be the celebrated magician at all. What the miners discover about their quirky Irish assistant will challenge everything they thought they understood about magic in the Old West.
William Reed, an experimental psychologist obsessed with unlocking the brain's hidden memory potential, develops a chemical serum he believes will allow humans to recall everything they've ever experienced. After testing the powerful formula on himself, Reed discovers it works beyond his wildest expectations—but the effects are temporary, forcing him to take increasingly risky booster shots to maintain his newfound abilities. As the serum's grip tightens, Reed begins remembering things that shouldn't be possible, pulling him deeper into a mystery that challenges everything he thought he knew about human consciousness.
When a recovering Peter Fullmer arrives in Nantucket for seaside recuperation, his immersion in reading Moby Dick while exploring the island's whaling heritage becomes dangerously real—characters from the novel materialize in the fog, and he finds himself pressed into service aboard the legendary Pequod itself. As the doomed ship pursues its white whale, Peter discovers he's trapped in a voyage he knows will end in tragedy, powerless to alter a single detail of the catastrophe ahead.
