"Mark of Evil" depicts a woman named Olga who struggles to afford a dress for a charity dance; a mysterious landlord gives her money, which she uses to shop at a thrift store, but later she discovers the landlord's house is automated and haunted by a sinister presence that terrifies her. A second story involves a man named Silas who becomes possessed or transformed in a cellar, tearing at his own hair in a panic before being buried in a freshly-dug grave, with his hair left visible atop the mound.
In "Mark of Evil," a desperate reporter with a camera that captures glimpses of the future turns to murder to fuel his career—until the device shows his own demise. Fleeing in terror, he’s hunted not by ghosts or fate, but by the law, as the past he’s tried to outrun finally catches up.
In "Death's Bridal Gown," young Olga steps into a dance wearing a second-hand dress that carries a chilling secret—its former owner lingers in the shadows, and the gown itself is soaked in embalming fluid. As the night unfolds, the line between memory and nightmare blurs, and the fabric becomes a shroud no one can escape.
In "The House That Jackdaw Built," a chilling tale from Adventures into Darkness #8, Mr. Jackdaw hosts guests in his sleek, high-tech home—only to find the house's electronic brain, trained solely in hatred by its creator, turning its lethal logic against them. As the machine confronts its own capacity for love, the line between master and machine blurs in a suspenseful, eerie descent.
In the stark silence of the desert, a haunted skipper seeks refuge from a past he can't outrun. When the ghost of a man he once broke—now a specter of vengeance—drags him to a hidden waterhole, the tide of guilt rises with deadly intent.
