Adventure Time #18

Mike Holmes's cover for this 2013 KaBOOM! release pulls Finn, Jake, and a wild assortment of Ooo residents — including Princess Bubblegum, Flame Princess, Lumpy Space Princess, and a spiky red creature — into a swirling tangle of dark tendrils that forms an eerie, organic cavern. The whole gang seems caught up in something strange and a little unsettling, rendered in that cheerful, candy-colored style that makes even peril feel inviting. With Ryan North writing and Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb handling interior art, issue #18 is a fine slice of what makes this series such a delight.
