Oni Press announced its partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and Cartoon Network in February 2024, acquiring the Adventure Time comics license after BOOM! Studios' last publication in 2020. After a preparatory phase of compendium reprints in 2024, the new ongoing series launched in 2025 — the first original Adventure Time comic story in six years. Writer-cartoonist Nick Winn, also known for his work on Bloody Mary, serves as the architect of the Oni series, with the 'Handbook Heroes' arc (beginning in issue #9, January 2026) designed as a fresh jumping-on point following an earlier story arc. Backup stories throughout the series are by writer Elizabeth Brei and artist Cleonique Hilsaca, while each main arc has featured a rotating lead artist — issue #10 marks Corinth Boone's debut on the series interior.
