In "The Mental Marvel!", Zatara attends a mesmerizing performance by the mind reader Mento, only to find himself caught in a web of crime when a hitman named Loopy attacks the act to protect his employer, the high-class fence Monocle. Taken aboard a boat, Zatara uses his magic to turn the tide—literally—sending the vessel into chaos and summoning an octopus to ensnare the criminals in its tentacles.
