In 1358, Vandal Savage has protected the black spheres that he's discovered, creating a trap as he knows Luthor will eventually find them (though he doesn't know who he is). He checks on the building again over the centuries, but in the late 20th century, he recognizes Luthor in a newspaper. Within a few years, they meet, but Luthor has no interest in befriending Savage. In the present, Luthor figures out that he needs to change all the spheres, and does so. Savage notices his have changed. He then confronts Luthor in his boardroom after sabotaging the building, but Luthor still has an ace.
