Action Comics #85
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThat cover says it all — Superman, bound with rope and laid flat on a wooden conveyor, is about to meet a spinning industrial saw blade head-on, while a villain cheerfully quips "…massage is so stimulating for the scalp!" as a terrified bystander looks on helplessly. The sheer nerve of the Man of Steel smirking straight into the saw makes this June 1945 issue an irresistible piece of Golden Age bravado, rendered with crisp confidence by cover penciler Jack Burnley and inker Stan Kaye. Inside, writer Joe Samachson and artist Mort Meskin take Superman through "The Puzzle in Jade!" — a pairing that promises plenty of intrigue to match the cover's high-stakes theatrics.
