“The Great Brain Robbery!”

Eduardo Barreto delivers a genuinely unsettling cover for this January 1986 issue: Superman stares out with grim intensity while a mysterious pair of purple-gloved hands hovers above his head, manipulating a high-tech device bristling with probes that appears to be interfacing directly with an exposed brain. Titled "The Great Brain Robbery!", the image raises immediate questions about whose mind is at stake and who — or what — is doing the tampering. It's a cerebral (in every sense) hook from DC that makes this one hard to set back on the shelf.
