“The Wizard City Warrior”

Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman stand together looking decidedly unamused as a green, insectoid figure in a rumpled plaid suit crouches before them, hands spread wide, delivering the punchline: "'Smatter, guys — can'tcha take a little joke?" It's a wonderfully offbeat image for March 1985, with the trio of DC's heaviest hitters reduced to straight men for what appears to be one very confident (if battered) comic villain. Cover artists Keith Giffen and Bob Oksner bring a playful energy to the composition that makes this issue of Action Comics genuinely hard to pass up.
