Action Comics #173
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeFrom October 1952, this DC ten-cent gem presents Superman mid-flight, poised to confront a menacing golden super-robot on a city street — but a warning caption stops him cold: attack the machine and a bomb hidden in the heart of the city goes off. Win Mortimer's cover art captures that impossible dilemma beautifully, with the robot clutching what appears to be a large case and a fire hydrant anchoring the tense urban scene. The promise of "Superman's Invulnerable Foe!" — plus a backup Tommy Tomorrow, Space Planeteer strip — makes this a genuinely satisfying package from one of the Man of Steel's most imaginative early decades.

Time after time, a gang of crooks seem to know what methods the Vigilante will use to try and stop them. After one such foiled attempt, he and Stuff find a flier for "The Vigilante Hall" in Red Valley. They are amazed to find a whole museum devoted to the costumed hero, including film footage of some recent captures, used by the Silver Saddle Gang to avoid arrest.
