“The Wizard of Winter!”

In "The Wizard of Winter!", small-town outcast Bertie Ketchum finds an unlikely way to stand out when he overhears crooks plotting to steal from the carnival—only to be outsmarted by The Vigilante, who arrives in the midst of a devious ruse involving a fake Singing Troubadour. Written by Joe Samachson and brought to life with crisp, expressive art by George Roussos, this 1948 adventure blends whimsy and suspense in a story where courage isn’t measured by size. The cover by Ira Yarbrough captures the mystery and charm of the carnival’s hidden dangers.

Bertie Ketchum is excluded from the Greg Sanders Appreciation Society for being too small. He later overhears some crooks taking about searching the carnival grounds for hidden loot, so he sends a telegram to The Vigilante via Greg Sanders, who is due to make a singing appearance there. The crooks put up a false Singing Troubadour in order to get the kids to search for them, but The Vigilante's appearance puts paid to their scheme.
