The Spirit of Christmas changes Hansy to a snowbird, so he can see if the villagers have the Christmas spirit. Alas, Hansy learns that they are all self-centered and greedy. Changed back to a boy, Hansy and his dog Tyl start home but are soon trapped in a snowstorm. The villagers search for the missing boy, nurse him back to health, and give up what they've gained from Christmas to help and encourage him.
