Prog 399 of 2000 AD hits January 1985 with a cover by Bryan Talbot that's all raw, crunching force — a hulking red war machine, starred and chained, is being absolutely smashed apart while a heavily armored green-scarfed figure looms in the foreground, the single word "MONGROL SMUSH!" leaving no doubt about the outcome. Inside, the anthology's Judge Dredd lineup is joined by Harry Harrison and K. Gosnell's The Stainless Steel Rat For President, with C. Ezquerra handling both pencils and inks on that strip. A fine early-1985 slice of British weekly comics at its most entertainingly unhinged.
