“Sandringham”

From July 1977, 2000 AD Prog 21 promises ancient cosmic dread with its bold headline "The Ten Million Year Old Terror!" The cover, pencilled and inked by Trevor Goring and Kevin O'Neill, depicts a USA-marked spacecraft streaking through space while two unsettling alien figures watch from the foreground, one urgently declaring "Emergency! The alien machine is about to destroy our world!" It's a wonderfully tense slice of British sci-fi at nine pence, showcasing the raw, imaginative energy that made this weekly anthology so compelling in its early run.
