ITH work around the farm slacken- ing up considerably since I shut off the hot water last month, I was won- dering how to build myself up strong enough to withstand one of Maggie's famous Thanksgiv- ing flapjacks when John Black of Winnipeg invited my red-headed wife and me to attend the hoss racing in that fair city. John was a member of the Canadian Olympic Shooting Team and knows hosses as well as he does shot- guns and pigeons, so we country folks didn't waste much time in greasing up the flivver. We'd no more than said "Howdy" to John, visited the ginger ale control depot, and had a bit to eat at the Royal Alexander, than we were at the St. Boniface track watching the ponies.
