What you’re looking at

This page from the satirical magazine contains several brief jokes targeting early 1920s social attitudes: **"One Would Serve"** mocks pacifist rhetoric by having a woman challenge an anti-war speaker to name even one person willing to fight—implying pacifists make grand claims without conviction. **"Whiz Bang Vaudeville"** is a pun: a model leaving for surgery jokes with an artist about hoping "everything comes out all right"—dark humor about medical procedures. **"Cash and Carrie Sisters"** advertises Chesterfield cigarettes through a suggestive joke about two women picked up by men. When asked their names, one woman deflects by saying they're "Chesterfields"—conflating the women with the brand and its advertising slogan "They satisfy," implying sexual availability. The final "Gus" line is absurdist nonsense typical of the magazine's crude humor style.
