About this issue

This issue of Deadwood Dick, Jr.'s, Resurrection by Ed. L. Wheeler presents a western mystery serial set in the mining camp of Basalt Butte. The narrative opens with a dark, violent scene: a farmer and his son encounter a mysterious object swinging from the cliff face above the camp. Once townspeople gather with lanterns, the horrifying truth is revealed—a corpse suspended by rope. The body is identified as Henry Whipple, alias "Red Roy," a man previously warned away from the camp. The hanging is attributed to Red Roy himself, though he hadn't been seen in a month. Mayor Archibald Grimm, who serves as mayor, constable, and coroner, convenes an inquest at the Palace Saloon to determine the murderer. The early chapters establish an atmosphere of frontier violence and mystery that propels the narrative forward.
