How His... (title cut off), by the author of "Nick Carter," represents a serial adventure story published in the New Nick Carter Weekly (No. 8, February 20, 1897). The installment opens with Trim, a young American detective operating in Sydney, orchestrating the public arrest of a man named Ransom on Adelaide Street, deliberately creating a commotion to flush out members of a criminal organization called the "Tigers." Ransom is connected to a jewelry-store swindling scheme and the conspiracy. Trim subsequently investigates a house in Balmain, former headquarters of the gang led by the mysterious "Your Highness" and the crook Jeremiah Schruggs, both of whom remain at large. Discovering a concealed wall mechanism operated by dual floor and wall springs, Trim opens a secret door leading to an unexpected solid floor rather than the deep well he had previously witnessed—a puzzle prompting further investigation.
Each page has its own page — the cartoon, who’s in it, and what the satire means.
