What you’re looking at
This page combines a beverage advertisement with two distinct features: **Main Advertisement**: A "Treasure" ad for bottled carbonated beverages, featuring an illustration of two children. The copy emphasizes these drinks as wholesome, health-giving refreshments made from "pure water, finest sugar and wholesome flavors"—typical marketing language for soft drinks of this era. **The Alibi Contest**: Life magazine's weekly contest where readers submit humorous explanations for captioned pictures, starting with "Well, you see, it's this way..." Winners received $50 (first prize) and $10 (runner-up prizes). This appears to be "Alibi Number Forty-Four," though the contest picture itself isn't clearly visible on this page. **Two Short Jokes**: - "The Climax" depicts a motorist frustrated with a mechanic's inability to diagnose car trouble - A final quip about a man whose name appears on a "sucker list" The page reflects 1920s popular entertainment and consumer advertising conventions.
