These comedies are short and snappy —about half a reel each—but we are trying to pack into each one of them as many bright, original, mirth-pro- voking ideas as are to be found in the av- erage feature picture. The readers of LIFE have contributed much spontaneous humor to the magazine itself. e We now want e’ them to collab- MIKE—the Hero orate with us on the LIFE CARTOON COMEDIES. Each of the LIFE CARTOON COM- 4 EDIES has a definite plot, enlivened with sparkling gags. The plot is based on that firmest of all dramatic founda- tions—the Eternal Triangle—with a good man struggling with a bad man for the love of a good girl. The three principals of that triangle are presented in the accompany- ing close-up views. > The ideas that animate the LIFE CAR- TOON COMEDIES are derived from LIFE. Look through the files of LIFE and see if you can find any jokes or cartoons MYRTLE— the Heroine that you think will lend themselves to treat- ment in motion-picture form. Absorb these ideas, and work out a brief scenario from them. Or develop ideas of your own—ideas that have no connection with anything that you have seen in LIFE. But don't send us any second-hand ideas, lifted from other publica- tions, from vaudeville or musical comedy acts, or from the movies. The scenarios that you submit should be as brief as possible, not more than five hundred words in length at the outside. They don’t have to be in continuity form, or in any other set form. We will pay RY $50 for each scen- ario that we can use in the LIFE HIGH-HAT CARTOON HAROLD—the Villain COMEDIES. It is understood that if we use any part of any scenario that is submit- ted, we will pay the full amount of $50 to the author of that scenario.
