What you’re looking at

This six-panel comic depicts a father telling his young child the story of "'The Night Before Christmas'" on Christmas Eve. The father recites the famous poem, beginning with "'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house..." The humor culminates when the child asks about "domicile"—a fancy word meaning house—and the father attempts to explain it using increasingly elaborate thirteen-letter words. His explanation becomes so convoluted that by the final panel, he's literally falling backward off the bed in exasperation. The satire mocks overly pedantic fathers who cannot simply answer children's questions but instead launch into unnecessarily complex explanations, turning a simple bedtime story into an exhausting vocabulary lesson.
