“Twenty Years Ago—” (Interesting Happenings in Our Midst, as Gleaned from the Files of “The Bug Ray Dovett, genial proprietor of the Hotel Central, had an unpleasant experience yesterday. He said that while the crowd from the mill were cating his regular thirty-five-cent table d'hote dinner, one young woman, whose name, for obvious reasons, is not men- tioned here, took out a cigarette and smoked it, right in sight of everybody. She was ejected, of course. eee Ed Leamy, general factotum at George Macdonald's painting and plas- tering establishment, has been awarded his fourth inerease in salary, and is now getting twelve dollars a week. Pretty good for seeing how he only has to work ten hours a day. eee Theodore Tutweiler, of T. Tutweiler & Sons, is back from a buying trip to the city, bringing with him as a sample a daring three-piece ladies’ bathing suit which he will place on display in his show windows next season. Mr. Tutweiler admits he does pot expect, nor would even consent, to sell it, as the dress reaches scarcely six inches below the knees and doesn’t go over the arms hardly at all. His beautiful young wife, Frances, while gathering chestnuts a jew days ago, had the misfortune to get some cockleburrs stuck in her hair, with the result that her hair had to be cut. Mrs. Catton says she is ashamed to be seen on the streets looking like a little girl, the way she does, ee Police raided a dance given by the younger and wilder spirits of the town at Ye Blacke Beare Assembly Hall and Ball Room last night. They are said to have been dancing the polka, it is alleged, according to the police. eae Quite a few of the boys have switched their trade over from Frank Malone’s saloon to Jack Carberry’s since Malone shot the price of liquor up to ten cents straight, instead of two for fifteen. Maybe if Frank advertised in the Bugle the way Jack does, he would not have to resort to such extortion. T.
