What you’re looking at
This page from *Life* magazine contains several brief humorous anecdotes typical of early 20th-century American satire, plus advertisements. **The main cartoons/jokes:** 1. **"Great Provocation"** (top left): A man asks an obviously moving neighbor "Are you moving?" while furniture sits outside. The joke is about asking stupid, obvious questions—a common *Life* theme mocking social obtuseness. 2. **"The Only Way"** (top right): An Irish drill sergeant, frustrated that recruits miss targets at all distances, orders them to fix bayonets and charge. The satire plays on Irish stereotypes and military incompetence. 3. **"Billiard Term: Reverse English"** (center): A cartoon showing billiards terminology used metaphorically—likely about deception or irony in everyday speech. The remaining content is primarily **advertisements** for Bon Bons chocolates, Maillard confections, and Cascade whiskey, which dominated *Life's* revenue model.
