What you’re looking at

This page contains two distinct pieces: **Main Article**: "How to Learn to Think You Are a Good Golf Player" by Dolly Hemmit Varden offers humorous golf advice. The author suggests focusing intently on the ball and practicing repeatedly (4,000-5,000 times) to eventually earn recognition and newspaper coverage. **Cartoon**: The bottom illustration, captioned "Man's Love is of Man's Wife a Thing Apart," depicts a domestic scene where a woman confronts a man reading in what appears to be a study or bedroom. The satire critiques how married men prioritize leisure activities (reading/hobbies) over spousal attention—a common domestic comedy theme suggesting marital indifference or neglect. Both items humorously mock male behavior and priorities in early 20th-century American life.

HEROES How to Learn How to Think You Are a Good Golf Player By Dolly Wimmit Varden. ANY people have asked me the secret of my super. swing. My answer is always the same. I got it by using both arms in the open air. My advice to everyone wishing to learn how to think he plays a good game, is to place his eye on the ball. When you are quite sure your eye is on the ball, raise your club carefully in the air and drop the head of it down along- side of your eye. Do not be afraid of hurting your eye. If you have placed it where it belongs, on top of the ball, nothing can harm it. . Do this about four or five thousand times. You will then be in a position to be persuaded to go to England and try your skill. You won't win anything, but you will get your name in the papers, which means a large and regular salary as keeper of the greens in any suburban golf club. You should also visit Scotland and learn to say “Hoot mon! properly. Every instructor of an American golf club can say “Hoot mon!” in thirteen languages. “MAN'S LOVE 1S OF MAN'S WIFE A THING APART”
