Anyone who has ever seen a Royal Geograph- ical Society at close range will know that this is no small job. Every mature and settled Royal Geographical Society has attached to it a number of fellows, who help to wait on the table in emergencies and who are also used as a framework upon which to display decorations and to look pleasant when their dignity can stand it. We could say more about Royal Geographical Societies, but why do so? They can usually speak for themselves, in one, two, three or four hours, as the case may be. Perhaps we should add, however, merely to show that there is no hard feeling, that every Royal Geographical Society always looks back upon a long and honorable career, and forward to the time when all men shall be united in an indissoluble bond—whatever that is—a bond in which the particular country to which this particular Royal Geographical Society is the chief orna- ment has no other interest than in acquiring a permanent heart-to-heart interest in all the other countries.
