What you’re looking at

This is a **full-page advertisement**, not satire or cartoon content. It promotes Goodyear's No-Rim-Cut tires, emphasizing their market dominance and technological innovations. The ad argues Goodyear's success stems not from "petty savings" but from two major innovations: the No-Rim-Cut design (eliminating a common tire failure mode affecting 25% of old tires) and 10% oversizing (adding 25% more mileage). The company claims to spend $100,000 yearly on research, testing tires continuously at their factory. The pitch pivots to objective proof: meters now used on many cars allow drivers to measure actual mileage, creating transparent competition based on real performance rather than manufacturer claims. Sales evidence supports superiority—motor manufacturers contracted for 890,680 Goodyears for new cars, with consumer demand doubling yearly. The tone is pragmatic corporate boasting dressed as honest engineering testimony, typical of early 20th-century industrial advertising.

No=-Rim-=Cut Tires 10% Oversize Not a Petty Saving Don’t think that Goodyears won their place through any petty savings. They were once in bottom place. Today they outsell, by long odds, all other tires in the world. They have leaped to leadership. The Two Big Savings The No-Rim-Cut tire—which we control—revolutionized conditions. About one in four of all old-type tires were wrecked by rim-cut ruin. The No-Rim-Cut tire wiped out that loss completely. Then the oversize we gave this tire added 10 per cent to the air capacity. And that, with the average car, adds 25 per cent to the tire mileage. These two features alone vastly altered the cost of tire upkeep. Other Savings Then, year after year, we have spent fortunes on re- search and experi- ment. That department now costs us $100,000 yearly. And there scores of our experts work all the time, seeking ways to better tires. With or Without Non-Skid Treads They test the tires Goodyear demand has come like an avalanche. It was thus we learned, in the course of years, how to give you Goodyear mileage. The Meters Tell Bear in mind that meters are now used on countless cars. Men know which tire is best. The time is past when users depend on makers’ claims. They measure mileage, watch their tire upkeep. And they tell their results to others.
