What you’re looking at

This page is primarily **advertising and humor columns**, not political satire. The main content includes: 1. **Vulcan-Set Shaving Brushes ad** (top left): Standard product advertisement emphasizing durability. 2. **"Demand and Supply" column**: A satirical piece noting the ironic spread of rabies cases *after* the Pasteur rabies treatment was introduced in Paris—implying the cure somehow increased the disease (absurdist humor about unintended consequences). 3. **"Youth" by Bill Nye**: Humorous essay about hoarding knowledge rather than sharing it gradually. 4. **"What He Wanted to Know"**: A courtroom anecdote where a confused juror asks the judge whether the defendant actually stole the watch—comedy based on the juror's fundamental misunderstanding of his role. 5. **Pompeian Massage Cream ad** (right): Beauty product advertisement with pseudo-scientific health claims about facial exercise and circulation. The page reflects early 1910s consumer culture and light humor rather than political commentary.

Among other things it says: “The most striking feature of the figures shown in this connection is the spread of rabics to the Pa- cific Coast States, which were ap- parently entirely free from the dis- case at the time of the former investigation. Another feature of interest is the greatly increased number of localities from which the disease, in man or animals, was re- ported.” This calls to mind what the Paris wits said shortly after the Pasteur treatment for hydro- phobia had been introduced into that gay capital— How remarkably the disease has increased since the introduction of the treatment!” —Journal of Zoophily. Youth . Youth is the springtime of life. It is the time to acquire information, so that we may show it off in after years and paralyze people with what we know. The ¢ youth will “lay low” till he gets a whole lot of knowledge, and then in later days turn it loose in an abrupt manner, He will guard against telling what he knows, a little at a time. That is unwise. T once knew a youth who wore himself out telling people all he knew from day to day, so that when he became a bald-headed man he was ut- terly exhausted and didn't have any- thing left to tell anyone. Some of the things that we know should be saved for our own use. The man who sheds all his knowledge and docsn’t leave enough to keep house with fools himself. —Bill Nye.
