What you’re looking at

This page is primarily **advertising content** from an early 20th-century issue, with minimal editorial satire. ## Main Content: **Pebeco Tooth Paste Advertisement** dominates the center—a product claiming to cure tooth decay by neutralizing "acid mouth" (a condition affecting 95% of humanity, per the ad). The advertisement offers a free ten-day trial tube with acid-test papers, pitched as scientifically revolutionary. **Endorsements Section** features testimonials attributed to humorists Mark Twain and Bill Nye praising "Cortez Cigars" from Key West. These appear genuine period endorsements, not satire. **Left Column Editorial** includes pieces on parcel post reform and compulsory vaccination skepticism, criticizing the state's support for commercial interests over citizens' welfare. **Bottom Advertisement**: White Rock table water claims to be "The World's Best Table Water." The page reflects early-1900s advertising culture—mixing dubious medical claims with celebrity endorsements and reform-minded editorial content, all without modern FDA oversight or advertising standards.

Practically the Only Cause of Tooth Decay is “Acid Mouth” -MADE AT KEY WEST#— Why Not Have a Parcels-Post ? But most important of all is the fail- ure to connect the consumer with the producer by a cheap parcels-post be- cause of our wholly unscientific system of distribution of the products of the soil and factory. * The only cheap transportation to-day isin bulk, This puts it out of the power of the consumer to secure his food sup- plies in any way except through com- binations formed for the purpose of squeezing the last cent from those com- pelled to buy. The consumer and the little store- Keeper are completely at the mercy of these combinations. As a consequence milk that on the farm fifty miles from New York sells for 344 cents per quart is given out by the combination, with part of the cream removed, for 9 cents in New York. A cent a pound rate would break these combinations in a month. Every man would have it in his power to get into direct touch with the producer, who must now let his fruit and vege- tables rot on the ground or accept the est rates of the combinations. Mark Twain and Bill Nye Two interesting communications to the Cortez Cigar Company, Key West, from America’s great humorists: From BILL NYE “I cannot say too much for ‘Cortez Cigars,’ and the American who is not Pleased with them must be hard to suit. “Mark Twain once told me of a new box of cigars he received one winter’s day, and of giving several to his friends that evening. They said lots of good things about them, but in the morning be found each cigar on the snow by the front gate. “Thave found no ‘ Cortez Cigars’ on the snow. “Yours sincerely, “E,W. Nye (Birt Nye).’* From MARK TWAIN “The story as told by Bill Nye is true. Mark Twatn Compulsory Vaccination Previous to the Reformation the State stood behind the Priest, and in- forced his edicts whereby thousands of ‘enocent victims fell before the steel and me of a merciless persecution. To- Gay the State stands behind the commer- alized, {ce-hunting doctor, and inforces Hs vaccination fraud against the lives and health of millions of little children. —I.M. Peebles, AM., M.D., Ph.D. Only an acid or an accident can break the enamel of the teeth. Dentists agree that the bacteria of decay would have no effect on the hard enamel without the aid of a mouth-acid to first penetrate this hard outer coating of the tooth. Therefore, overcome this acid tendency which exists in the mouths of nearly 95% of humanity, and decay is posi- tively prevented. This acid condition is overcome at once by PEBECO TOOTH PASTE A dentifrice so different, so unusual, so effective, that we ask the privilege of sending you a Ten-Day Trial Tube Free This tube will demonstrate to you how Pebeco cleanses, whitens and polishes the teeth and keeps the breath free from odors.
