A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA For the winter has become the common thing for those who enjoy perpetual summer. In returning from there, there ts one route that combines. far more advantages than any other—the Shasta-Northern Pacific ronte. The scentc features between San Francisco and Portland are unequaled in the United States. Winding along the upper Sacramento River, and passing over the Sisklyou Mountains, one goes wild. Castle Crags form a never-to-be- forgotten panorama. After Castella and Castle Crags are reached, frequent glimpses of white-robed Shasta are to be had, and ere long the grand mountatn ts tn continuous sight until the Siskiyous are crossed. Black Butte, south of the Siskiyou range, and Rogue River Valley to the north of tt, also challenge one’s admiration. At Portland tbe Columbta River and Mount [fod and Mount St. Helens are reached.
