He said a few weeks ago that Dennis Spen- cer, the Napa luminary, was called upon by a Chinaman one evening, when the following dialogue ensued : ***One Chinaman kill another Chinaman with a hatchet; how much you charge make him clear ?" “TIL take the case,’ said Mr. Spencer, ‘for $1,000." “Allee right,’ said the Chinaman, ‘I be back after while.’ “In about a week he returned to Mr. Spencer's office and laid down $1,000 in gold on his table.
