- LIFE A WELL-KNOWN New Yorker, who has been in San Francisco for the last couple of rks, tells the following story about the Rradley-Martins. It secms that George le Forest Grant, who is a handsome and athletic young man as well as a great hvorite in New York, in the clubs and in society, was in the same Paris hotel Fith the Bradley-Martins, whom he did not know. Mr. Grant, who is of a convivial mperament, was lying in bed one morning about cleven o'clock, with a dark brown taste his mouth, follows : His servant presently brought in a note, which Mr. Grant opened. It ran Mrs, Bradley-Martin presents her compliments to Mr. George de Forest Grant, and to know whether he would surrender his first-floor apartments for the use of her iece. Mr. Grant was so amzzed that he at once became very wide awake. dite the following reply : He proceeded to “ Mr. George de Forest Grant presents his compliments to Mrs. Bradley-Martin, and sires to know whether her niece drinks.” It did not take long for this remarkable missive to bring an answer, which ran as bllows Mrs, Bradley-Mart at the extraordinary que put to her by r. George de Forest Grant, but begs to assure bim most emphatically that her niece does jot drink.” The cvrrespondence then came to a sudden ending through the following note from Mr. Grant: a “Mr, George de Forest Grant very much regrets that be cannot give up his first-floor } apartments to Mrs. Rradley-Martin's niece, for he is convinced that as that young lady J does not drink, it 1s very much easier for her to get up stairs than it is for Mr, Grant."— Argovaut. / |, R: We cannotafford fish at your prices.
