Ove Sunday, during hi is fee at twelve, in the chapel of the little village of three ladies of the Protestant faith were Speed to take shelter from one of those heavy summer showers which so frequent- ly occur in the south of Ireland, ‘The officiating priest, knowing who they were, and wishing to re- ful to them, st down to his attendant, or rk, who was on his knees, and whispered to him: “* Three chairs for the Protestant ladies.” The clerk being an ignorant man, mistook the words, stood up and shouted to the con; ition > “* Three cheers for the Protestant ladies |" which the congregation immediately took up, and gave three hearty cheers, while the cl actually stood dumbfounded.—-Zxchange, “*T THINK,” said the cannibal jester to the three epicures who had assisted him in consuminga reverend tourist, ‘* I think we should put the deceased down on our minute-book as ‘Ruling Passion.’ He was so strong in death, you know.” “Strong in death,” enquiringly remarked King Fo Fum, picking his teeth with a splinter of bone. “Yes,” returned the jester, complacently patting his paunch, ‘Hasn't it taken four of us to hold him ?"—Boston Courier, “UNCLE Jack,” said Robbie, as he critically exam- ined a rabbit his uncle had just given him, ‘didn't you say the Lord made rabbits?” “+ Guess I did, Robbie,” was the reply. “* Well, don’t you think,” reflectively added the boy, “*that when he got as far as the tail he sorter tired of his job ?"—Boston Courier. “ How did you come to marry John?” “Well, he Rothered me So that finally I told him I'd take him on trial.” “* But you've lived with him ever since ?” “Yes, but he hasn't ceased to be a trial yet.”"— Boston Transcript. ERFUMERY- xc APPLE -J3L°SS0M: GARFIELD IPATION sa CONST SICK HEADACHE A PUBLIC BENEFIT. ‘The traveling public has already been greatly bene- fited by the combination between the Chicago & North-Western and the Union Pacific Railway systems and the establishment of what is now known as the “Chicago, Union Pacific and North-Western Line,” through greatly improved train service from the East to the Pacific coast. Features of the new service are solid vestibuled trains running through from Chicago to Denver and Portland without change. These trains carry through palace sleeping cars from Chicago to Omaha in 15% hours, Denver 33% hours, Portland 82 hours, San Francisco 85 hours, and for the benefit of passengers who do not wish accommodations in first-class sleepers, luxurious reclining chair cars are run through to Denver and Portland without change, in which accommodations are free. Colonist sleepers are also run through from Chicago to Portland, in which the charge for a completely furnished berth is nominal, and as all meals en route are served in the best of dining cars, the Chicago, Union Pacific and North-Western Line affords all classes of passengers the very best accommodations. Another feature of the service provided by the Chicago & North-Western railway which is highly appreciated by the traveling public, is the fast vesti- buled train (coaches, sleeping cars and dining cars) running daily between Chicago and St. Paul and Minneapolis, carrying through vestibuled sleepers be- tween Chicago and Duluth. The North-Western, which now operates over 7,000 miles of first-class railway, was the pioneer in railroad building in the West, and is still in the lead in supply- ing the traveling public with all the benefits that are conferred by superiority of equipment, through train service and fast time between Chicago and all points West and Northwest, ‘You cam tive st home and make more money at work for as than of anything else ta the world.
