But there is talk of declaring a 35!% per cent. stock dividend toward the end of the year and there might be some advantage to you in that. Better not sell at R, Pn Ps.: According to. the prospectus of the Sierra Neva Company's new venture, the compa re highly speculative. It is strange thi forty years no agreement was made Scorpion Mining Co., which lacked capital, to permit Sierra Nevada to exploit the forme territory. If the vein in Scorpion ground is a con- tinuation of the surprisingly rich deposit that many years ago made the Comstock famous, of course the working of it should prove profitable. But that can be proved only by costly exploration, General Motors common, paying 7 per cent. extras, should be a good any smart decline. Chrysler Motor common, paying #2.50, is a bu: ness man's purchase, but the preferred, paying #8, is more desirable. ‘American Can common is & sound issue, but its 82 dividend y n market value. American Stores is_ prospero but pays only $2 per share v, which is a very low return on market price. U! 5. Steel 7 per cent. pfd., Dodge Bros. 7 per cent. pfd., and Sin- clair Consolidated Oil 8 per cent. pfd., are reasc ably safe, and would give you more revenue, C., Cixewwxatt, O.: You are receiving a fair return on Buckeye Pipe Line bought at 878. Y.:_ Empire Gas & Fuel Co. is a subsidiary of the Cities Service Co., which is one of the largest and most prosperous oil and public utility organizations in the country. Em- Fuel pays monthly dividends on its stock, which is a good business man's Cus The N. T. U clusive right to use in the United States the N. T. U. process of extracting oilfrom shale. It has a capital stock of $25,000,000 and controls extensive tracts of oil shale land. It has a large plant at Santa Maria, Cal. No state- ment of the Corporation's operations and earnings is available, but it has contracted to furnish 10,000 barrels of oil a day to the Associated Oil Co., and the latter has built a pipe line connecting the Santa Maria plant with a railroad. This shows that the N. ‘T. U. process is deemed practicable and that the corporation has possibilities. The shares, however, are now non-dividend paycrs and so far only a speculation, , Ginano, Kax.: William Wrigley, Jr., com and its yield on market price fair. E. J. Brach & Sons stock and Long Bell Lumber Class A are making a high yield because they are more or less speculative. Vick Chemical is a successful enterprise, is paying 83.50 and its stock is quoted at about 846. It looks like a more substantial issue than the other three. You uld prudently invest $500 in it. American Steel Foundries common, paying 88 and selling at about #42, would be a good buy. B., Mestens, Texs.: Willys-Overland com- mon’ has disappointed its holders, who have for months been expecting the declaration of a divi- dend. ‘The company's earnings are reported satisfactory and the preferred stock is attractive at present price. ‘The common looks like a long pull, “The low-priced motor stocks which are returns appear preferable. we Vencesses, Vr: Hudson Motors, which s pushed to an high peak, is now selling at about one-third of its best price. Its present quotation is warranted if its $3 dividend can be maintained. U.S. Steel common is, in view of the corporation's earnings, dividends, surplus and ex ctations, not selling too bigh, but a larger imme- urn can be had from other sound issues. American Tel. & Tel., for example. California Packing is not doing over well for stockholders on current figure. Chrysler common is a very fair business man’s purchase, and the preferred is a good business man’s investment H., Layspowse, Ps.: General Motors com- mon, U.S. Steel common, and Du Pont common have reached price altitudes that naturally have lessened for the time their further speculative possibilities. They are, however, sterling issues which may be bought ‘on recessions with much ce for their investment qualities. Bethle- el common is only a speculation as yet, as ation’s third quarter earnings showed clouds the prospect of a speedy ividend, G., Butter, Ps.: As it was incorporated so recently as August, 1925, the Lehn & Fink Products Co. is still unseasoned, but with a good outlook. If its dividend at the rate of $3 can be maintained, the stock is at present price an attractive business man's purchase. The company's only funded debt is a 524 per cent. real estate mortgage for $475,000. R., Sr. Lovis, } Seaboard Air Line com- mon looks like # long-pull speculation just at this time. All the oil syndicates announce promising prospects, but only a few make a profitable performance. Better buy a stock which is already dividend-payi L., Patuapenents, Ps.: Austin & Nichols com mon does not appear to be a good stock to average on. The preferred dividend may be secure, but the company is not earning so liberally as to give the common a bright outlook. Why not average by buying a dividend payer: D., Watertowy, N.Y. dividend seems Marland Oil fell below your’ purchase price a few points ngs of 84.74 per share for the first nine months of 1926 seem to assure the 84 divid Mohawk Valley new stock, of no dividend basis, As the it is under skilled supervision. ‘The shares are selling too high for present dividend. K., Rossoxe, Va.: As Utilities Power & Light Corporation is ‘paying a dividend on. its common stock, the 7 per cent. pfd. is an excellent purchase. There seems to be no good reason for g from it to another issue. B., East Greexwicn, R. 1: Both Central . 6 per cent. pfd. and Alubama Power C per cent. pfd. ure seemingly sound business men’s investments, M., Hestsvitte, Mo.: Cities Service common and preferred are regarded as meritorious. They both pay dividends. ‘The preferred has more of the investment quality. B., Cixcixnati, 0. . General Motors common is an attractive purchase still on recessions, pro. policy of declaring extra nds shall be continued. Dodge Bros. pid. may be classed as an excellent business man’s investment, the company's earnings showing up well. Fleisch mann common is not making so large a some other medium prived issues of fully merit. R,, Torosto, Ovt.: Paying only 75. cents yearly, Yellow Truck & Coach is not entitled to its present high market price. The pfd., paying 87, is a fair business man’s investment at about #100. American Radiator should a higher dividend to justify its current quotation. Glidden shares make a fine yield on auoted price, but they would have more value if they were less speculative. apenrnns, Py.: The event. proves ou were wise in holding on to Miami ( K and not selling These sellers Miami's outlook wa comeback in price to the reduced dividend from 81 to $1.50, w result of splendid management.
