The Advertising Agency Goes into Conference T" president, two copy writers, two visualizers and the janitor enter the restful room, tapestried in old rose. Forty ash receivers recline on the mahogany table. All seat es and light gold-initialed cigarettes. The conference is on! They're going to take double-page spreads in the farm papers next year and I'm after the account.” Second copy writer: “Kraus plays a pretty good game himself. Sun- day he almost made the course in par.”* Two visualizers (as one): ‘The average mean rain fall last year in North Dakota never equaled the square of the hypotenuse. Or, if Rube Goldberg will do the illustra- tions, children will cry for it.” President: ‘Well, hurry up that. slogan. I'm playing a foursome this afternoon.” Janitor (carrying out basket of cigarette butts): “I got a good idea. Call them ‘Kandics like your mother use to make. President: “Splendid! Can't beat a conference for getting up original ideas. Hand letter it and send it down with that Harvard cub in the Brooks suit. Must leave now, Prom- ised to let Kraus use my new clubs to-day.” The conference ends. The janitor opens the windows. Arthur L. Lippmann The Fragrance of Fresh Cut Lilacs is in ED.
