N EYE-BLINDING light when properly EY confined into a wide-spreading, low- tilted beam, can illuminate the road for 500 feet ahead and will pick out every obstacle and obstruction without inter- fering in the slightest with the comfort or safety of the driver of an oncoming car. Vary the adjustment of the bulb in such a light, however, by the slightest fraction of an inch, and the upper edges will be- come ragged so that stray light rays will he shot upward and safety and conven- ience will be destroyed. It is such a light which must be dimmed when passing oncoming cars, but dim- ming, as already stated, is as dangerous as dazzling, for even our remote country re liable to be occupied by pedes- farm wagons, bicycles or other highway users not required to carry a tail light. Therefore, when passing another car, the illumination from) your -own lamps should be sufficient to light up your side of the road.
