My Way of Teaching Piano Made Plenty of Enemies LL the old fogeys who are down on anything new- if especially correspondence study- made it pretty hard pegonearais risnonrm for me when I first started twenty-five years ago. , mes And the fact that in spite of their opposition I obtained more students every year seems to me pretty good evidence that my method isn’t wholly bad. have far more students than were ever before taught by one man. There isn’t a State in the Union that doesn’t contain a score or more skilled players of piano or organ who obtained their entire training from me. They learned in quarter the usual time and at quarter the usual cost. 1 will gladly refer you to any number who will soon con- vince you of the excellent results they gained from my instruction. My free booklet, “How to Learn Piano or Organ” will interest and inform you. But don’t send for it if you’re afraid of being convinced. My way of teaching piano or organ is entirely different from all others. Out of every four hours of study, one hour is spent entirely away from the keyboard —learning something about Harmony and the Laws of Music. This is an awful shock to most teachers of the “old school,” who still think that learning piano is solely a problem of “finger I now gymnastics.” When you do go to the k board, you accomplish twice as much, because you understand you are doing. With- in four lessons I enable you to play an interesting piece not only in the original key, but in all other keys as well. I make use of every possible scientific help many of which are entirely unknown to the average teacher. With my fifth lesson I introduce another important and exclusive invention, QUINN-DE Quinn-Dex is a simple hand-operated moving picture device which enables you to see, right before your eyes, every movement of my hands at the key- board. You actually see the fingers move. Instead of having to reproduce your teacher's finger movements from MEMORY—which cannot bealways accurate—you have the cor- rect models before you during every minuteof practice. The COLOROTON E and QUINN- EX save you monthsand years of wasted ef- fort. They can be obtained only from me and there is nothing else, anywhere, even re- motely like them. Men and women who have failed by all other methods have quickly and _ easily attained success when studying with me. In all essential ways you are in closer touch with me than if you were studying by the oral method—yet my lessons cost you only 43 cents each and they include all the many recent developments in scientific teaching. For the student of moderate means, this method of studying is far superior to all others, and even for the wealthiest student there is nothing better at any price. You may be certain that your progress is at all times in accord with the best musical thought of the present day, and this makes all the difference in the world.
