As the big fellow was seldom needed after he had made his daily pinch wallop, he would don his street outfit and then go to the grand-stand, where be would watch the remainder of the con- test seated alongside of his diminutive friend and listen to the youth's comments on the game and the players. One day the little fellow’s father was knocked out of the box, and the following day McCormick ignominiously struck out when he was called upon to come to the rescue with a much-needed emergency hit. Harry put on his ‘‘citizen’s outfit’ and went round and took his seat near the little fan. But talk as he might he failed to get a response from the youngster, bis every advance being met with cold disdain. Finally he asked the reason for the ur expected attitude of his chum, and the other, unable to contain himself longer, | turned and wrathfully blurted out, “Go away from me and don’t ever talk to me again till you do something to win & game!
