O CAMPAIGN sent JupcE more letters complimenting | the paper upon the excellent work it did for the Re- publican cause than the one just closed. These let- ters have come from every State in the Union—a fact that emphasizes the national influence of Jupce. The late President Harrison said that the political influence of Junce was greater than that of any other paper in America. Elihu Root, Jr., gives the reason for this influence when he says, in a recent letter to JupcE, Cartoons are the pithiest form of argument.’’ The famous cartoon by Grant E. Hamilton, entitled, ** Look at the Doughnut, Not at the Hole,’’ has done just as effective work this year as did that other equally famous cartoon of his, “The Full Dinner * when it defeated Bryan in a former campaign. That the cartoons of Jupcr might have the widest possible publicity, they were offered to the Republican National Committee, to be sent out to other papers for reproduction. The national committee availed itself of this privilege most liberally, and the result was that the cartoons had a tremendously large circulation all over the country. Never before did so many employers purchase copies of Junce to distribute among their employés. It was in this field, ‘possibly, that Jupce’s influence was the greatest. Thousands of workingmen were won to the Republican cause by the arguments told in the car- toons. Many business men supplemented the work of the Republican National Committee by circulating Jupce where it would do the most good. In fact, much of the credit for the work done by Jupck must be shared with its friends.
