# Analysis of Judge Magazine Page The main cartoon depicts a figure on a bicycle encountering what appears to be military or law enforcement personnel. The caption reads: "I can't—let me help of poor filter, who's failed in business?" / "likes—What business were you in?" / "I can't—Unstable business." This appears to satirize someone attempting to avoid or escape authority, possibly referencing labor unrest or political upheaval of the era. The bicycle as an escape vehicle and the "unstable business" quip suggest commentary on social instability or failed commercial ventures during periods of American political tension. The surrounding text discusses various political figures and social issues (Tammany Hall, Cuban affairs, Senator Hill), indicating this reflects turn-of-the-century American political discourse, though the specific cartoon's exact historical reference remains unclear without additional dating or context.

WHAT IS NEEDED is to send John Bull out of South America as his friend Louis Napoleon was sent out of Mexico; and it may not be unprofitable’ for some too ambitious persons to recall the fact that Maximilian was shot. It is rather late to recall James Monroe; but a few hours of Mr. Seward and Mr. Blaine would be gratifying. THE RIGHT GROUND. THE DECLARATION of the opponents of Tammany hall in this city in favor of a decent Sunday with decent liberty is a litle matter of home rule against foreign dictation that will have the indorsement of good citizens of all parties. It means liberty without Tammany hall. With Tammany hall and its government of blackmail there can be no such thing. THE IMPUDENCE OF INFAMY. HE PEOPLE of this city and state didn’t bury ‘Tammany ball for the mere purpose of digging it out of the ground within twelve months. Revolutions do not revolve with that rapidity in the wrong direction. And think of the impudence of the reorganization of the corruption with the very names at its head of the men who managed it during the whole in- famy of its career! AT LAST! CHATTANOOGA and Louisville have spoken for a new era of good feeling, and Atlanta makes it a practical proposition, There is no north, no south, no east or west at this period, but one country, one flag, one army, one uniform, and one destiny, This means mutual respect, one section for another, and mutual prosperity from Maine to Mexico. And so may it be as long as the world goes round. THE NEW BACHELOR. THE TERM “OLD MAID" is not without unpleasantness, though many a good old girl has won a host of affections quite as if she had been known as a “bache- lor"—a term proposed by Mrs. Stanton to take the place of the other. The change will not be gen- erally adopted, we think, because most old maids are sensible women and care for no feathers which do not show naturally from their ha- bitual bonnets MONROE AND PROTECTION, HOPE it is not probable that the next great war in which this country will be involved will begin off the coast or within the boundary of Venezuela. But the line presented by Mr. Monroe may as well be located by the Venezuelans at Chomberg, with the intention of moving it to the Pacific for better identification; and in that enterprise every good American will join hands with every other, for north and for south and continent without end. VERY SIGNIFICANT. THERE IS NO warm personal friend of Senator Hill on the Democratic state ticket. His old partner, Stanciifield of Elmira, wanted to run for attorney-general, and Alton B. Parker was anxious to go into the court of appeals; but they were warned that this was not a good year for their ambition. Possibly Hill was beaten by the other bosses in the cases of these favorites; but we guess David, who is intensely anxious for a Dem- ocratic legislature, knew what he was about from the opening to the end of the convention. AN ORDERED INSURRECTION. THE SULTAN had to do something. Fighting was necessary to his cunning and his cowardice. Did he and his advisers invent the Ar- menian insurrection? ‘The Armenians are used to slaughter and they are more adapted to death and burial than the Turks. If there must be blood- shed they are just the parties to suffer it. What defense could the sultan offer the powers better than that furnished by an Armenian outbreak? And such an insurrection is so reasonably sure of occurrence where men and women must choose between it and dishonor and death! comicbooks.com
