T MUST be admitted that the press and the pulpit have been out spoken in their opposition to Tammany hall, and that retaliation is a natural consequence; but on the other hand it must be admitted that ‘Tammany is corrupt from top to toe, and proposes no penance and nothing but a continuance of the corruption. Tammany rule means robbery, and criticism of Tammany means arrest for libel, as in the cases of the Evening Post and the Recorder and that of the rebuke extended by the grand jury to Dr. Parkhurst.
