Grady in the current number of Jupce is the talk of the hour. When partisans forget their prejudices and differences and unite in doing honor to a man, it must be because the man represents something infinitely greater and grander than a party or a section, JUncE ig a Republican journal—it is Republican to the core, without the slightest Democratic sympathy or tendency ; but one does not have to look long at this picture before its full significance becomes apparent. ‘The dead sculp- tor; his unfinished work, the statues representing the “north” and the ‘south,” each with an arm about the other, with the uncompleted base still lacking the inscription just ready to be placed there, ** Perfect unity and love"—all this speaks volumes! ‘A popular pict- ure voices public sentiment. It requires no prophet to see that the coming man is the pacificator and not the partisan, Mistaken agitators may rant themselves hoarse in their endeavor to stir up strife, but the people are thinking of peace and not of war; of a united country and not of ‘* states discordant, dissevered, bel- ligerent.” This is the winning idea,’ and it will win because it is right. So far as the people are concerned there is no dividing line or barrier between the two sec- tions. Blood is thicker than water.—Alanta (Ga.) Constitution. THE ATLANTA, G. Mr. W. i Arkell. Publisher Junce, New York—Dear sir: It was my purpose to fave written you before now to thank: you for your beautiful tribute to Mr. Grady in the last issue of the Jupce. I send you herewith a copy of last Sun- day's Constitution, containing a crude reproduction of your magnificent cartoon, with editorial reference to the same. Our people were literally wild for it and the supply of JUDGES gave out almost immediately on ar- val. From all parts of the state telegrams were re- ceived asking for copies, all to be answered with the statement that no more were to be had. Our reproduc- tion, even, made an unusually heavy demand for Sunday's per. Let us hope that the seeds sown by Mr. Grady in behalf of the re-establishment of cordial relations be- tween the sections will take deep root, and that the har- vest will be a materialization of what I know was his Toward the accomplishment of such a glorious end no one can render more effective and patriotic service than yourself. I am, sir, with kindest Yours very truly, CLARK Howe, Managing Editor.
