Mrs. Porteous is the mother of a precocious youngster of the female persuasion, who promises great things for the future. What little Miss Porteous lacks in personal attractiveness she more than makes up in entenesss and a general faculty for mak- ing things hum. She has had the reputation at her mother’s hotel of being an infantile terror. ; ‘Those who are well ac- quainted with Mr. Booth need not be told that he is one of those shy, gentle, lovable men who inspire the devotion of friends and the jealousy of rivals. He has lived a life of probity and purity, his career has been brilli- ant enough to make it a matter of public pride, and his methods have been invariably upright.
