This 1968 reprint anthology edited by Robert A. W. Lowndes collects adventure and military fiction including three substantial pieces. "The Black Ace" by George Bruce (originally from Argosy, 1935) is a novella about Jefferson Rolfe, a talented Black aviator in 1920s Birmingham whose ambitions to become a legendary pilot are thwarted by racial barriers. He performs aerial stunts with the World Famous Ace Flying Circus before eventually traveling to Ethiopia. "The Gratitude of Coolie Sam" by Herb Lewis is a novelet set during an unspecified time of peril. "Of Moonsickness" by F. R. Buckley concerns a Renaissance Duke encountering mysterious dangers. Additional content includes John Webb's "Torpedo!" and Douglas Mussinon's "Red Jorg's Last Stand," Ambrose Bierce's Civil War story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and Kipling's poem "Fuzzy-Wuzzy." The issue also includes reader correspondence and subscription advertising for correspondence school diplomas.
