# Museum Catalog Note
This February 21, 1900 issue of the Half-Dime Library, priced at five cents, features "Sierra Sam's Double; or, The Three Female Detectives" by Edward L. Wheeler, author of the prolific Deadwood Dick, Jr. series. The story opens in the mining camp of Flumeville, where a gaunt stranger named Junius Brutus Dunk arrives seeking Sierra Sam, a well-known local character. Dunk attempts to extort money from Sam by revealing he knows about Sam's wealthy maiden aunt Tabitha Green in Big Vista, who possesses valuable gold mines. Sam, however, deduces Dunk's scheme: that Dunk was hired by a rival nephew to either blackmail Sam or eliminate him to secure the inheritance. When confronted, Sam produces a revolver. The issue also includes a catalog listing over 100 previous Deadwood Dick, Jr. serial installments.
