Β· 1979

"The Infinite Voyage" by Clark Carrados is a science fiction novel set in the 28th century. The narrative begins with a space station operator who intercepts a distress signal from the Deep Lance, originating from coordinates KT9, sent 590 years after the vessel's departure from Earth in 2163. Admiral Shaughn and communications secretary Marv Laski recognize the discovery's propaganda value for Shaughn's presidential campaign. They dispatch Captain Kirth Kynn to command a rescue expedition aboard the Salvation. The mission aims to locate the Deep Lance's remains and uncover what transpired to its crew of forty, who were selected breeding pairs intended to establish a colony. Before departure, President Pawloski assigns Dr. Desia Lozzull, a psychiatrist, to the crew ostensibly to treat any survivors, though she serves as a presidential spy. Kynn resents this intrusion but must accept the constitutionally authorized assignment.
