Hanson is disoriented by this fusion of mysticism and science, uncertain whether he has experienced three nights' sleep or thousands of years. He is dressed in anachronistic engineer's clothing and encounters Nema, a nurse, and Ser Perth, a physician, who speak cryptically of his condition and his sign.
