# Beyond Fantasy Fiction, July 1954 (Vol. 2, No. 1)

This issue of Beyond Fantasy Fiction contains a novella and three novelets of speculative fiction. The lead novella, "No More Stars" by Charles Satterfield, depicts a man named Dave Hanson awakening in a mysterious hospital after a fatal bulldozer accident in Saskatchewan. He discovers his body has been magically reconstructed with significant facial changes and his face no longer matches his original appearance. The setting blends magical practices—astrological references, invisible barriers created by physicians, and zodiacal healing—with modern medical technology like antibiotics and cortisone. Hanson is disoriented by this fusion of mysticism and science, uncertain whether he has experienced three nights' sleep or thousands of years. He is dressed in anachronistic engineer's clothing and encounters Nema, a nurse, and Ser Perth, a physician, who speak cryptically of his condition and his sign.

Additional contents include "The Agony of the Leaves" by Evelyn E. Smith, "Miss Tarmity's Profession" by Roy Hutchins, and short stories by Theodore R. Cogswell, H. Chandler Elliott, Winston Marks, and George Hayman.
