# Museum Catalog Note
This issue of Beadle and Adams' Dime Library (No. 720, May 12, 1891) features "The Gamin Detective's Double Snap at Santa Fe" by J.C. Cowdrick, author of the "Broadway Billy" novels. The serial centers on Broadway Billy and his thin, wisecracking partner Skinny, young detectives summoned to the office of insurance agent Cleverdale Finck in Santa Fe. Before they can respond, a man named Harry Rentaway staggers into their hotel bar mortally wounded by gunshot, creating an immediate mystery. The victim, son of retired army officer Barrington Rentaway, dies before details emerge. Barrington offers a five-thousand-dollar reward for the murderer's capture. Billy and Skinny, their detective instincts engaged, begin investigating the seemingly motiveless killing, questioning whether victims Miss Wesselley (romantically connected to Rentaway) and rival Harrison Waldmar hold clues. The narrative emphasizes Billy's street-smart deductive methods and banter-filled dynamic with Skinny.
