Analog British Edition, Vol. 18 No. 2

· February 1962

This issue of Analog Science Fact & Fiction (British Edition, February 1962) features a short novel, two short stories, and the second part of a serialized work. "Lion Loose" by James H. Schmitz depicts operative Quillan arriving at the declining Seventh Star Hotel space station, where he's contacted by Reetal Destone with an urgent problem: the station and the arriving liner Camelot are scheduled for destruction as part of an evidence-elimination scheme. The issue includes "The Asses of Balaam" by David Gordon and "The Man Who Played to Lose" by Larry M. Harris as shorter pieces. Harry Harrison's "Sense of Obligation" continues as part two of a three-part serial. The editor's essay "Scientific Lynch Law" addresses the Dean Drive controversy, arguing that scientists have wrongly dismissed the inventor without proper investigation, comparing institutional refusal to test claims to mob justice. Regular departments include "In Times to Come," "The Analytical Laboratory," and P. Schuyler Miller's "The Reference Library."
